FROM PRINCIPLES TO PRACTICE
An immersive workshop to bring clarity to the important work of the board
and practical insight into its roles and responsibilities.

NECIS schools are renowned for their diverse and inclusive environments, and fundamental to the long-term success of these schools are the boards. We know that boards are composed of highly skilled individuals from varied backgrounds and industries representative of the community.  One of the common challenges we face is balancing the workload of navigating the complex roles and responsibilities of school governance without necessarily being educational experts.

This workshop is designed specifically for NECIS member schools, to create a safe space for supportive dialogue.  The workshop aims to provide clear guidance of the roles and responsibilities of boards, and how that differs to the work of the Director and school leadership.

The workshop will provide insights and practical guidance on effective board practices as well as strategies that can be applied within your own school board situations, so you can have more insightful discussions and ultimately have a bigger impact on your school community.

Despite their best intentions, board members often find themselves with limited time or inclination to research literature on board governance. The roles and responsibilities of school boards are multifaceted and demanding, including:

  • Setting Strategic Direction: Boards are responsible for defining the school’s mission, objectives, and strategic plans
  • Financial Oversight: Ensuring the financial well-being of the school, including managing budgets and capital assets
  • Policy Development: Establishing and reviewing policies that align with the school’s mission
  • Leadership Support: Appointing, evaluating, and supporting the Head of School and other key personnel

What will you gain from the workshop?

PRINCIPLES

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

SUPPORT AND INSPIRATION

Principles form the foundation of effective board governance, providing a clear framework for decision-making and action.

The board has various duties which requires being able to adapt their mode of governance.   Practical sessions will help board members understand their roles and responsibilities both collectively and individually.

In addition to exploring formal duties and responsibilities of governors, this session will allow sharing of good practice among NECIS member schools in a  supportive group of like minded people facing similar challenges.
