The Dynamics Deck

You've had this conversation before. Different meeting. Same people. The same problem.

At first it feels like someone isn't listening, or isn't trying. But when the same pattern keeps returning - different year, different context, same conversation - the issue is rarely just the people in the room.

What's really going on

Why does the same issue keep coming back?

Because behaviour is often generated by the system around people, not just the people themselves. We read the recurring problem as a personality, a motivation, an attitude - and manage the person accordingly.

But if the same dynamic returns with different people, in different years, the cause can't only be personal. Something in the conditions - the incentives, the roles, the unspoken rules - keeps quietly recreating the very behaviour everyone is frustrated by.

The pattern underneath

Until you can see the pattern, you keep solving yesterday's symptoms.

Events are loud and specific: this meeting, this disagreement, this person. Patterns are quiet and structural - and they are where the real leverage sits. Manage the symptom and it returns, wearing a different face. Shift the condition and the pattern changes for everyone.

The move is not to try harder on the person. It is to read the system - across self, team and the wider organisation - find the condition holding the pattern in place, and change that.

Which is why it exists

That's exactly why we made the Dynamics Deck.

It is a diagnostic for reading the pattern beneath the events - looking across self, team and the wider system, so a recurring problem can be seen as a dynamic rather than a fault in a person.

Then it helps you do something about it: cognitive reframes that shift how the pattern is understood, and practice-builders that change the condition producing it - so the same conversation finally stops coming back.

What becomes visible

The recurring patterns generating everyday behaviour - and the small shift that changes them. Once a school can see the system beneath the events, it stops managing the same problem forever and starts dissolving it.

Read the pattern, then shift it

From diagnosis to a deliberate shift.

The cards move a leader from naming the dynamic, through reframing how it is understood, to a concrete change in the condition that holds it in place.

Why it becomes school improvement

Reading one pattern is insight. Reading them by habit is a culture.

Culture is not what a school says it values. It is what a school repeatedly practises - and culture remembers what we practise. When leaders habitually ask "what is the system producing here?", a school stops blaming individuals and starts changing conditions.

When reading dynamics becomes routine, the recurring problems that used to define a school quietly stop recurring. More on this idea: building a thinking culture →

A shared way to read your school

Patterns change fastest when leaders read them together.

One set gives a leader or coach a diagnostic lens. A set across leadership and HR makes reading the system a shared discipline - so recurring problems get named and shifted, not just endured. Volume pricing is available for multiple sets; tell us your school and we'll handle the quote, shipping and any invoicing you need.

Stop managing the same problem. Change what's producing it.

Give your leaders a way to see the pattern beneath the behaviour - and the shift that finally stops it coming back.
